Schiphol parking: choose between walking, shuttle and valet

At Schiphol, choose between a brief drop-off, parking to meet someone and parking during a flight. Then compare the complete booking price, terminal transfer, vehicle clearance and key handover. A product name alone does not establish walking distance or included services.

How we work

Key points

  • Choose the parking product for your purpose, not just the name of the building.
  • Kiss & Ride is for a brief drop-off; meeting a passenger inside requires parking.
  • Compare the complete booking price for the same entry and exit times.

Choose for the journey you are actually making

Use the airport parking selector for a quote with your actual entry and exit times. Compare the terminal connection, covered or outdoor space and key handover alongside the price.

This guide covers official Schiphol products. It does not rank independent operators or show live availability; the reservation terms determine what is included.

A practical comparison before you book

A passenger is ready to get out immediatelyKiss & RideThis is a brief drop-off, not somewhere to wait for an arriving flight

Read this as a shortlist, not as a ranking from cheapest to most expensive. A traveller who needs to accompany a passenger inside has a different problem from someone happy to use a bus. Compare the total cost only after excluding options that do not meet your practical needs. The official long-stay comparison also separates self-parking from valet parking.

Picking someone up: plan the meeting before entering

Schiphol directs people collecting passengers to P1 Pick-up and Drop-off. Agree where to meet before the flight lands. A landing notification is not the same as the passenger being ready outside: collecting luggage and reaching the agreed meeting point are separate parts of the journey. Ask the passenger to message when ready rather than building your plan around the scheduled landing time alone.

If you want to meet inside, budget for walking in, finding one another and returning to the car. If the passenger is delayed, reconsider your arrival time before entering the airport parking area. Do not substitute a drop-off lane for a waiting area. Keep the flight number and the passenger’s contact details somewhere accessible, and tell them which car park or meeting point you actually used if the original plan changes.

Dropping someone off: quick stop or proper goodbye

The airport describes Kiss & Ride as a free, very short drop-off. Use it when the passenger can get out with their belongings and you can leave. If you want to go inside, help at check-in or spend time together, choose a parking product instead. The practical difference is whether the driver stays with the immediate drop-off process or needs to leave the vehicle.

Before approaching, put travel documents, medication and hand luggage where the passenger can take them without unpacking the whole boot. If a family member needs assistance, agree who will accompany them and who will remain responsible for the car. Do not choose solely on the word “free”: a parking charge can be worth paying if it lets you provide the help that the passenger actually needs.

Walking from the terminal: understand the product name

P1 Parking is the airport’s self-parking option close to the terminal, with a covered walking route. Its name is similar to the pick-up product, so check what the confirmation actually says. A route to the right building does not prove that you have booked the right service for your length of stay.

Keep the confirmation accessible before reaching the entrance. Record whether the booking uses number plate recognition or another entry method, and check the registration carefully after changing cars. If travelling with somebody who walks slowly, compare the whole journey from your parked car to the relevant airport service, not merely the advertised distance to the building. The shortest advertised walk is not a guarantee of the shortest trip for every traveller.

Shuttle parking: add the missing parts of the transfer

P3 offers garage and outdoor parking with a shuttle transfer. Choose the actual product, rather than assuming that every space with the same parking name has the same cover, clearance or facilities. The airport’s comparison overview distinguishes these versions.

A bus journey is only one part of the time you need. Your own schedule should also include finding a space, unloading, reaching the stop, waiting, boarding and walking from the terminal stop. This is a planning method, not an extra transfer-time claim. On the return, save the location of your car and the bus-stop instructions before leaving it. A photograph of the row marker is often more useful than remembering that you parked near a large building.

Valet parking: make the key handover an explicit choice

P6 Valet involves handing over the vehicle and keys. It is a different service from parking in a nearby garage and keeping the keys yourself. Check the selected covered or outdoor option and the instructions for collection on return.

Before committing, decide whether you are comfortable with the handover. Remove documents and belongings that you will need during the trip, including any house key attached to the car key. Keep the vehicle handover record and the reservation together. If your return flight changes, look up the operator’s procedure rather than assuming that the car will automatically be ready at a newly chosen time. These checks matter more than a small difference in an advertised headline price.

Roof boxes and high vehicles

Measure the actual vehicle with its current equipment. A roof box, rack or accessory changes the relevant height. Do not use the catalogue height of an empty car if you have added equipment above it. Write the measurement down before deciding between a garage and an outdoor product.

Schiphol’s height guidance directs high vehicles to long-stay parking. Its general wording and the individual product overview are not equally detailed: verify the specific entrance and product before booking. If collecting someone with a high vehicle, ask the operator about the appropriate short-visit procedure. Do not interpret an open-air photograph as proof of unrestricted access, and do not infer permission to sleep in a vehicle from a clearance figure.

Electric charging: do not make the return depend on an assumption

The airport’s charging information says that ordinary charge-point availability is not guaranteed. It also describes a charging option with valet reservations. The current comparison pages and the charging information do not describe every product identically, so confirm charging for the exact product you intend to buy.

Plan your arrival with enough flexibility to cope if the expected charger is unavailable. Keep parking and charging costs separate when comparing offers. Before paying, identify whether you are reserving a parking space, requesting a charging service, or merely selecting a car park that has chargers somewhere on site. These are different promises. If charging is essential for the return journey, obtain confirmation of the service rather than relying on a generic charging icon.

Compare a real quote, not a price remembered from another trip

Make a small comparison sheet for your actual dates. For each option, record the final parking total, any selected services, the transfer method, whether you keep your keys, and the cancellation conditions. Compare the same arrival and departure window. A lower price for a shorter stay is not a saving if it leaves part of your journey uncovered.

Set the entry time from when you expect to reach the car park, not from the flight departure time. Set the exit time after allowing for arrival formalities, baggage and the return to the vehicle. This does not mean buying an arbitrary extra period; it means using the journey you really intend to make. Keep the final price and booking terms together so that a later change can be compared with the original purchase.

Changes, cancellations and a different vehicle

Use My parking reservation to review your booking. The airport distinguishes changing a reservation from cancelling it and ties refund conditions to the booked options. Do not assume that a modification button means every change is free or that an unused booking will automatically be refunded.

If the car changes, review the registration and vehicle details before travelling. If the flight changes, review both the new arrival time at the car park and the likely exit time. Keep the updated confirmation, rather than only the original email. When a payment or booking issue occurs, use the contact details on the airport’s own parking help page and quote the reservation reference.

Accessibility and travelling with assistance

Start with the passenger’s needs: walking distance, luggage handling, boarding a bus, a mobility aid, and where assistance is expected to begin. A parking space labelled accessible does not answer every question about the journey to the terminal. Explain the actual requirements when contacting the airport, including whether the driver also needs to accompany the passenger.

Keep parking arrangements and airport assistance arrangements together, but do not confuse them. A parking reservation is not evidence that assistance has been arranged. Before departure, make sure everyone knows the meeting point, the planned transfer and the fallback if the first option does not work. Use the airport’s travel information to compare alternatives if the car journey is becoming unnecessarily complicated.

Your departure and return checklist

Before leaving home, check the product name, registration, entry method, parking dates and route to the specific entrance. Save the booking offline and share the return instructions with a travelling companion. Carry essential belongings separately from anything that will stay inside the car.

Before walking away from the parked vehicle, record the row or location, keep the parking document if one was issued, and verify how to return. Before the flight home, check whether a changed arrival requires an update. At the exit, use the method specified by the reservation; if the barrier does not recognise it, contact the operator before creating a second payment. Keep receipts until the booking and any additional services have been reconciled.

A booking or barrier problem: keep the right evidence

If a reservation confirmation is missing, check your email folders and the booking details before buying another stay. A bank debit is useful evidence of a transaction, but it does not tell you which parking product or registration was accepted. Use Schiphol’s parking support to clarify the reservation rather than assuming that a second booking will cancel the first.

If a barrier asks for payment despite your reservation, keep the parking ticket, original confirmation and any extra receipt together. Record where the problem happened and whether it occurred on entry or exit. This makes it possible to separate an unrecognised booking from time outside the reservation or a charge for a different service.

Schiphol has an official refund request form for duplicate payments, entry or exit problems and disputed costs. It asks for booking identification, the parking ticket and payment evidence. Explain the mismatch precisely and retain the submission confirmation. Submitting a request is not approval of a refund; the airport examines the case. Send payment evidence through the official channel, with unrelated transactions removed.

Walking distance is not the only difference at the entrance

Without a reservation, P1 has a 48-hour maximum under the airport’s drive-up conditions; a longer stay requires the appropriate booking. Do not turn a passenger-collection visit into holiday parking by simply leaving the car. If travel plans change while you are there, contact parking support before assuming that a later online booking covers the stay already started.

Arriving in a van or lorry needs a separate access check: the airport announces a zero-emission zone for city-logistics vehicles at Schiphol Centre from 1 January 2026. The airport’s access notice links to the applicable rules. A parking reservation does not establish that a hired van can enter; check the vehicle category and any required exemption before collecting it.

Choose what the parking product must solve

Start with your task, then check the exact product restrictions in the official quote. This selector compares the documented transfer and key-handling differences, not live capacity or a guaranteed cheapest price.

Meet a passenger inside

P1 Pick-up and Drop-off is the official terminal-side product to inspect first. Agree on an arrivals meeting point before entering; flight landing time is not passenger-ready time.

Keep the keys and use a shuttle

Compare P3 covered and uncovered products. The airport publishes a continuous shuttle service; allow separate time for waiting, boarding and luggage.

Let staff park the car

P6 is valet parking and requires a reservation. Accept the key handover and read the vehicle restrictions before booking, rather than treating it as self-parking.

A pickup agreement you can print

Fill this locally with the passenger. It creates no booking and sends nothing to the airport. Keep flight tracking, the passenger’s confirmation and your parking entry as three separate decisions.

Delayed flight

Update the meeting message before driving into the car park. Do not use the motorway shoulder or access lanes as a waiting area.

Passenger still collecting bags

Wait for the agreed ready message. If you already parked, check the running session instead of assuming the flight delay is included.

Compare parking and onward travel costs

Copy the total quoted price for your full stay from each operator. Add the return transport cost for everyone travelling and any mandatory booking or payment fees. Use the same currency for both options.

Total = parking for the full stay + return transport for the group + mandatory fees. For example, a parking quote of 18 plus transport of 8 and fees of 2 totals 28, in your chosen currency.

This adds your own quotes; it does not fetch live prices or calculate hourly tariffs. Enter zero only when a cost is confirmed as free or does not apply. Compare cancellation terms, opening hours, vehicle height limits and the last return service separately.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wait for an arriving passenger at Kiss & Ride?
Use the airport’s designated pick-up parking for collecting a passenger. Kiss & Ride is a brief drop-off area, not a waiting area for arriving flights.
Should I choose a shuttle or walk to the terminal?
Compare the complete transfer with your luggage and walking needs. A shuttle journey also includes reaching the stop, waiting and boarding; a nearby garage still involves walking from your space.
Does a parking reservation guarantee charging?
Do not assume so. Check whether your booking includes a confirmed charging service or only access to a car park with charge points. The airport warns that ordinary charging availability is not guaranteed.
What if my flight or car changes?
Review your reservation, entry and exit times, registration and booked conditions. Save the updated confirmation and contact the operator when the change cannot be handled in the booking account.
