Roma: good to know before you park
Central ZTLs and their hours
Roma has 5 limited traffic zones (ZTL) where cars without a permit are banned at set times, never on public holidays. The daytime Centro Storico ZTL applies from 6:30 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and from 14:00 to 18:00 on Saturday; its night zone from 23:00 to 3:00 on Friday and Saturday. The Tridente (A1) is stricter: from 6:30 to 19:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturday, and there motorbikes without a permit are also kept out.
Trastevere, San Lorenzo and Testaccio at night
Trastevere also has a morning ZTL, from 6:30 to 10:00 Monday to Saturday. At night, Trastevere and San Lorenzo close to cars from 21:30 to 3:00 on Friday and Saturday, holidays included, and from May to October on Wednesday and Thursday too; inside Trastevere the night limit is 30 km/h. Testaccio closes from 23:00 to 3:00 on Friday and Saturday. In August the night zones are off.
Fascia Verde: older engines stay out
A far wider low emission zone, the Fascia Verde, rings the centre. Since 1 November 2025, Monday to Saturday 24 hours a day except midweek holidays, petrol, LPG and methane cars of Euro 2 or older and diesel cars of Euro 3 or older may not enter, drive or park inside it. Between 1 November and 31 March the city also holds 5 ecological Sundays with traffic stopped inside the Fascia Verde.
Blue bays and white bays
Blue bays cost 1.00 € an hour outside the ZTLs and 1.20 € inside them, plus a short stay rate of 0.20 € per 15 minutes, paid at the meter only. You can pay with coins, at Pay&Go meters or by app such as EasyPark or Telepass. Electric and hybrid cars park free in blue bays once their plate is registered. Near the main hospitals and in paid zones, white bays are free with a parking disc, for 3 hours at most.
Interchange car parks by the metro
About 35 interchange car parks sit by stations of metro lines A, B and C, suburban railways and bus terminals. A stay costs 1.50 € for 12 consecutive hours or 2.50 € for 16, and is free with a Metrebus Card. Annibaliano, Conca d’Oro and Jonio close at night, from 00:15 to 5:15 Monday to Friday and from 2:15 to 5:15 at weekends: your car stays locked in until reopening, and since 1 October 2026 each of those hours costs 0.80 €.
Match days at the Stadio Olimpico
For matches and big events at the Olimpico, parked cars are cleared from the streets around the Foro Italico and stopping is banned along much of the Lungotevere. Drivers are directed to 3 outlying areas staffed by stewards: Piazzale Clodio, Viale XVII Olimpiade and Viale Tor di Quinto.
