Rotterdam: good to know before you park
Betaald parkeren
On-street parking has three hourly rates: €6.42 in the centre (high rate), €3.20 in the districts around it (middle rate) and €2.24 in the outer districts (low rate). The city has announced that from 1 November 2026 they rise to €7.20, €5.00 and €3.00. Payment applies until 23:00, and in the centre on Fridays and Saturdays until 1:00. You pay through the app of one of the parking providers or by debit or credit card at the pay machine; scan cars check number plates.
Paid parking is being extended district by district outside the ring: Nesselande comes first, from 1 December 2026. Hoek van Holland, Rozenburg, Pernis and Heijplaat are excluded.
P+R
P+R Beverwaard, Capelsebrug, Melanchtonweg and Schenkel, among others, are free with no conditions. At Kralingse Zoom and Slinge parking is free if you make the return trip by public transport with an OV-chipkaart or a RET ticket with a chip; after validating on your way back you have 15 minutes to drive out. Otherwise it costs €0.50 per 13 minutes, capped at €23 a day. Paying with OVpay does not give free parking at the moment.
Zero-emissiezone
Inside the ring there is a zero emission zone for commercial vans and lorries: since 1 January 2025 vans of emission class 4 or lower and lorries of class 5 or lower may not enter, and from 1 January 2027 class 5 vans are also banned. If you only use the van privately, you can apply for an exemption.
Market days
The city has three large weekly markets. The Centrummarkt on the Binnenrotte is held on Tuesday from 8:00 to 17:30 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00; on Friday there are only a few stalls, from 12:00 to 18:00. On the Afrikaanderplein (Zuid) the market runs on Wednesday from 8:00 to 17:30 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00, and on the Visserijplein (West) on Thursday from 8:00 to 17:30 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00.
In season the Binnenrotte also hosts the Zondagsmarkt, on Sunday from 12:00 to 17:00.
