Barcelona: good to know before you park
ZBE Rondes de Barcelona
The ZBE Rondes de Barcelona low emission zone covers the whole municipality of Barcelona (except the Zona Franca industrial area and the Vallvidrera, Tibidabo and Les Planes neighbourhoods), L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Sant Adrià de Besòs and part of Esplugues and Cornellà de Llobregat. It applies on working days, Monday to Friday, from 7:00 to 20:00. Vehicles with a DGT 0, ECO, C or B label drive in freely. Vehicles without a label, such as petrol cars older than Euro 3 or diesel cars older than Euro 4, may only enter during those hours with a daily authorisation, up to 24 days a year.
A foreign-registered car has no DGT label: it must be entered beforehand in the metropolitan register, proving its Euro standard. If it meets the requirements but is not registered, fines start at €200. On the outskirts, the AMB P+R interchange car parks let you leave the car and continue on metropolitan public transport for 24 consecutive hours.
Àrea Blava and Àrea Verda
On-street regulated parking (AREA) is run by B:SM. In the Àrea Blava (blue bays) any vehicle may park, generally Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 20:00 (also Saturdays in the centre, and Sundays and holidays in the beach area), for the maximum shown on the sign, usually 1 or 2 hours. The Àrea Verda (green bays) gives priority to residents; everyone else pays from 8:00 to 20:00 or from 8:00 to 22:00 depending on the zone. Outside those hours parking is free.
The price depends on the environmental label: in the Àrea Blava under Tarifa A (Eixample, Ciutat Vella) it ranges from €1.25/h for a 0 emissions vehicle to €3.75/h without a label. Tickets are bought at the parking meter or with the official smou app.
Market days
Els Encants, the flea market also known as Fira de Bellcaire, sits just south of plaça de les Glòries, at carrer de los Castillejos 158, under a large mirrored roof. It opens on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 to 20:00, and the auction area starts earlier, from 7:45 to 9:00.
Every Sunday, public holidays included, the Mercat Dominical de Sant Antoni sets up its book, magazine, postcard and video game stalls under the canopies around the Sant Antoni market building (carrer del Comte d’Urgell 1), from 8:30 to 14:00. The city pages for both markets mention no traffic closures or parking restrictions.
