Bilbao: good to know before you park
Check the low-emission zone before choosing a garage
The Abando ZBE operates on working Mondays to Fridays from 07:00 to 20:00. C, ECO and 0 vehicles have unrestricted access; A and B vehicles face restrictions, with exceptions. B vehicles have an exemption until 31/12/2029 when using a public short-stay garage connected to the ZBE system: keep the receipt and verify that the garage participates. This exception does not cover A vehicles. With foreign plates, check the council registration or notification procedure before travelling.
OTA: a short visit and a whole afternoon cost differently
The standard OTA tariff for 2026 is €1.30 for 1 hour, €3.35 for 2 hours and €6.35 for 3 hours. The intensive area allows a maximum of 3 hours in both blue and green sectors; the residential area allows 5 hours in green and 3 in blue. Do not extrapolate a flat hourly rate or mistake residential green sectors for unrestricted all-day parking.
When OTA charges stop
Normal intensive-area hours are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 20:00 and Saturday 09:00 to 14:00; residential-area hours are Monday to Friday 09:00 to 13:30 and 15:00 to 19:00, with no Saturday service. OTA also does not apply on public holidays, Saturdays in July and August, August afternoons or Saturdays following a Friday public holiday; on 24 and 31 December it ends at 14:00. These OTA exemptions do not make garages free or override no-parking signs.
Garages for Azkuna Zentroa and Indautxu
La Alhóndiga, beneath Azkuna Zentroa, opens 24 hours, admits vehicles up to 2.10 m and publishes a daily cap of €16.75. Indautxu also opens 24 hours but has a clearance of only 1.75 m. Both quote €2.80 for the first hour; this does not establish that all hours cost the same. Before entering with a tall vehicle, check its actual height including accessories.
Museum, market, stadium and hospital
The Guggenheim has no visitor car park of its own: it suggests PÃo Baroja and Plaza Euskadi as alternatives and Moyua station, Ercilla-Guggenheim exit, for metro arrivals. Mercado de la Ribera can be reached by tram. San Mamés recommends Bilbao Intermodal parking and San Mamés metro station; Intermodal also lists Basurto Hospital among nearby services. A match ticket does not automatically reserve parking or authorise restricted access.
Park and ride to continue by public transport
Leioa, Etxebarri, Ibarbengoa and Ansio/BEC are metropolitan alternatives for continuing by public transport. The discount requires travel with a Creditrans operator and collection of the car before the station closes; when the metro runs all night, the maximum stay is 24 hours. If conditions are not met, Leioa, Etxebarri and Ibarbengoa charge €0.05 per minute. BEC has its own conditions and may not offer park and ride during major events; BAT and MUGI cards do not qualify for the discount.
