Málaga: good to know before you park
Low Emission Zone (ZBE)
Málaga's ZBE covers 404.03 hectares of the centre and is enforced by number plate cameras. The streets that mark its boundary include Paseo Marítimo Antonio Machado, Avenida de Andalucía, Avenida de Barcelona, Alameda de Capuchinos and Paseo Marítimo Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Vehicles with a 0, ECO or C label enter freely; those with a B label or no label may only drive in if their vehicle tax is paid in Málaga.
Under the city's timetable, vehicles with no label from outside Málaga were exempt from fines until December 2025, and B label vehicles from outside are exempt until December 2026. The mobility bylaw sets a €200 fine for entering or driving in the ZBE with a vehicle that is not authorised.
Blue zone (SARE)
On-street regulated parking, called SARE, is run by the municipal company SMASSA in sectors such as Centro Histórico, Malagueta, Perchel, Huelin, Cruz de Humilladero and El Palo. It applies Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:00. The maximum stay is 150 minutes, or 30 minutes in the high-turnover SARE 30 bays.
The rate is €1.00 per hour, with a minimum of €0.50 (30 minutes) and a maximum of €2.50 (150 minutes); pay at the meter or by electronic means. If you overstay, the ticket is cancelled by paying €5.00 within the following 3 days; if you had no ticket at all, by paying €9.00.
Market days
Málaga’s largest street market is Cortijo de Torres: on Wednesdays, from 9:00 to 15:00, it gathers 315 stalls on a dedicated open space on avenida de las Malagueñas. On Sundays, in the same area, the second-hand market takes over calle José Blánquez el Maño, also from 9:00 to 15:00. Buses 1 and 20 and the Cercanías C1 and C2 lines stop nearby.
Other municipal markets run from 9:00 to 14:00: the one on the open space of avenida de Europa on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Teatinos (corner of calle Andrómeda and avenida Plutarco) on Mondays, calle Conde Guadalhorce in Cruz de Humilladero on Thursdays, and plaza Virgen de la Milagrosa in El Palo on Saturdays. The city gives the closing time as approximate and publishes no parking rules for these days.
