Palma: good to know before you park
Central Palma: ZBE and ACIRE
Since 22 December 2024, the area inside the Avingudes ring and the seafront has formed the Centre Low Emission Zone (ZBE). Vehicles without a DGT environmental label need an authorisation; no sticker is needed, because cameras read the number plate. Inside the ZBE the 12 ACIRE restricted traffic areas, such as Catedral, Sant Jaume or Santa Eulàlia, still apply: only authorised or exempt vehicles may drive there.
Parking inside the ZBE
For the public car parks inside the zone (Via Roma, Plaça Major, Parc de la Mar, Comtat del Rosselló, Plaça dels Patins, Mercat de l’Olivar and Sa Gerreria), no authorisation is needed as long as you enter and leave by the routes on the municipal map, which do not open the ACIRE areas. With a foreign number plate, the Ajuntament requires the vehicle to be entered in its register 5 calendar days ahead, together with the ticket proving the car’s arrival on the island. Until 31 December 2026, petrol cars from EURO 3 and diesel cars from EURO 4 are accepted, and the permit is valid for 30 calendar days to drive and park in the ZBE.
ORA, the blue zone
ORA street parking is charged Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00, and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 14:30. In zone 1, inside the Avingudes and in Cala Major, 1 hour costs €1.45 and the maximum is 2 hours for €2.65. In zone 3, Pere Garau, you can stay up to 3 hours for €2.10. If you overstay, cancelling the ticket costs €6 in zone 1. On 1 January 2027 the ORA extends to new zones.
SMAP car parks
The central SMAP car parks are open 24 hours and charge by the minute. Manacor, Santa Pagesa and Parc de sa Riera cost €1.3005 an hour with a cap of €5 a day. Via Roma, Plaça Major, Comtat del Rosselló, Avingudes, Eusebi Estada and Marquès de la Sènia cost €2.003 an hour, capped at €24.04 a day.
Free on the outskirts
Son Sardina, Son Fuster and Son Gibert are free, open 24 hours and linked to the Metro: the ride to the centre takes about 10 minutes from Son Sardina and 6 from Son Fuster. Son Moix, also free, opens Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 22:00 and on Sundays and public holidays from 8:00 to 15:00; EMT lines L6 and L8 reach the centre in about 10 minutes.
Short stops at the airport
At Palma de Mallorca airport, Express Llegadas gives 15 free minutes and Express Salidas 2 free stops a day of no more than 10 minutes each. Both allow a maximum stay of 2 hours.
