Venezia: good to know before you park
Where the car stops
Piazzale Roma is the road terminal at the entrance to the historic centre, and the boarding points of all public vaporetto lines are only a few metres from its garages. The other option is Tronchetto, reached directly from the Ponte della Libertà : from there the People Mover takes you to the centre in 4 minutes, for 1.50 € a single ride, and the ticket can be bought at the station machines or in the AVM Venezia Official App.
Piazzale Roma garages
The Autorimessa Comunale is the largest garage on Piazzale Roma, with 1,906 car spaces, open 24 hours a day all year. It charges a single rate of 35.00 € for 24 hours, not split into shorter periods; booking online by 24:00 the day before gives you priority entry through the left lane. If you park only between 17:00 and 5:00, an evening rate of 15 € applies, except during the Festa del Redentore and on 31 December. Maximum height is 2.20 m. For short stops, the S. Andrea car park inside the same building costs 7.00 € per 2 hours. The few blue bays on the square allow 1 hour at most, the first 30 minutes free with a ticket from the meter.
Leaving the car in Mestre
On the mainland, the tram runs from Mestre directly into the centre. AVM manages free interchange car parks around Mestre, Marghera and Favaro, one of them, Favaro C, next to the tram terminal. Near ACTV bus stops, the S. Maria dei Battuti and Castellana A car parks are open around the clock and cost a flat 1.00 € per day. In Mestre, paid hours for both these car parks and the blue bays in the streets run from 8:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 20:00, Monday to Saturday except public holidays; street rates range from 0.80 € to 1.20 € per hour depending on the zone. You pay at the meter or in the AVM Venezia Official App.
To the Lido with your car
The car ferry, line 17, links Tronchetto with Lido S. Nicolò. A car costs from 13 €, driver not included. You can buy the ticket at boarding, while booking online costs 2 € and gives priority boarding.
Tickets for vaporetto, bus and tram
An ordinary Rete Unica ticket costs 9.50 € and is valid for 75 minutes; travel cards cost 25 € for 24 hours, 35 € for 48, 45 € for 72 and 65 € for 7 days, on both land and water services. Validate your ticket at every boarding and at each change. On board the boats only digital payment has been accepted since 1 July 2024, and contactless bank cards work across the whole AVM/Actv network.
